Why I Wrote Journeys.
I wrote Journeys because understanding where I had been and what had shaped me led to another question:
Where do I go from here?
I don’t pretend to have all the answers. Many of mine are still being written. But I have learned that life is not one journey along one clearly marked path. It is made up of many journeys—through relationships, loss, faith, purpose, mistakes, and growth.
Journeys is an exploration of the questions we ask along the way and how the answers, when we find them, help us write the chapters that come next.
As I think about the journey of life, there are a lot of people I have walked alongside, crossed paths with, or passed along the way. They have impacted me. Our interaction, or maybe my reaction, left a mark on me.
Depending on my direction, the sun can cast a shadow from my profile in almost any direction.
Reflecting on this has led me to consider: What does my life say about me?
What lessons am I teaching?
What is someone learning?
What impact am I having?
If I am trying to be a positive role model and their experience with me intersects the worst version of myself, what is their lasting impression of me?
And what if that is the only version of me they ever experience?
So, to me, being a better person means no vacation days from the goal. I may not get up and go to the gym every morning, but I promise I wake up every day with the goal of being a better human.
Even when I don’t feel like it.
