A great way to spend a couple of hours at the beach or by the pool.
Why I Wrote Shadows
It began with a simple question.
Who cast the shadows that shaped who I became?
As I reflected, the question grew beyond the people who influenced my life to the moments, hardships, and blessings that quietly left their mark. Eventually, it became even more personal:
What kind of shadows am I casting?
Shadows is my way of thanking those whose examples shaped my journey while inviting readers to consider the influence their own lives have on others. I hope it encourages you to reflect on the shadows you've lived beneath—and the ones you're leaving behind.
One of the hardest lessons to learn is there are seasons to life. I have been blessed with some vibrant friendships which, in full bloom, created the peaceful shadows our souls long for. It is in their sudden absence we begin to truly understand the loss of their impact on our lives. The absence of their living shadows is replaced by the memories taking root in our souls. And the realization of all they meant to us.
Throughout the seasons of life, God sprinkles our path with seeds of friendship.
Some seeds are annuals.
They are bright, vibrant, full of color and excitement, but also in the moment.
Others are perennials.
They are around for the long haul, even though they experience periods of dormancy.
They can be transplanted, they can be moved. They will survive bumps and bruises and still find a way to bloom just when you need them to.
My friend was a perennial.
